So you want to start working out?

I know we’re almost into the third month of the year, how’s your resolutions stacking up? Are you hitting the gym? What?! Not yet!?! You want to start but you’re scared/too lazy/don’t know how to? Here, let me help.

Make a Schedule – It’s really easy to say you’re going to do something and not do it BUT if you write it in your planner your tune may change. I always like to keep a to-do list everyday. Some of the tasks I know I’m going to do no matter what — like “gym” but hey it always does feel really nice crossing something off a list. Especially because some of the other tasks may be more difficult/may not get crossed off. Write it in your schedule, plan to go after/before work or at lunch like me.

Take Classes – I know the gym can be pretty intimidating. When I first started going I would go with my brother which made it really easy because working out with another person is so fun and less stressful. But then I moved out here and had to start working out solo. As a girl it can be extra difficult doing weights and such because dudes usually take those areas over and even though now I’m pretty comfortable with working out with a bunch of meathead guys, if you’re just dipping your toes in you don’t want to be scared off. I got back into the swing of things  by taking classes. There are plenty of classes for nearly anything — weight training? Take body pump. Cardio? Oh man so many like cycling and zumba. Also working out with a group of people motivates you and pushes you to keep going. I’ve noticed when I work out solo I kind of slack because nobody is watching me, and although nobody is watching you in the class either you still have that idea that you have to keep up with everyone and that pushes you to work out harder.

Research – Starting to work out can also be overwhelming. I mean you have so many body parts and muscles and there is so much equipment and exercise routines — where do you start? Maybe figure out what you want to work on first. First figure out what exactly or why exactly you’re working out — health? lose weight? competition? all of the above? — and then narrow it down by body part. Since you already have a schedule thanks to listening to my first suggestion, just split up what you want to do one what day. Maybe Monday you’ll do legs, Tuesday arms, Wednesday back, etc. Research some exercise routines so you know exactly where to go at the gym.

What is it that they say? If you do this more than three times you develop a habit? Just push yourself to go to the gym three times, then once you’ve done that do three more days, then three more. Soon it’ll be as automatic and common as brushing your teeth.

2013 New Year’s Goals.

Happy New Year everyone! I hope you all had a great holiday break. I am pretty pumped for 2013. 2012 was subpar for me, to say the least, but I have a really good feeling for 2013. As you might remember I am not too keen on New Years Resolutions and you can read my theory and last year’s goals here.

New year means new goals. Last year I succeeded in accomplishing them all, for the most part. Let’s push my goals more.

1. Read 50 books a year. – This is just going to be a mandatory goal for me every year. I’ve succeeded I think two out of three years so far, let’s make it three out of four! I am starting this one a little late, I don’t plan on beginning it til the 5th or 4th.

2. Run at least 3 5ks. – Last year I ran one, let’s punch that up a notch and go for three. I signed up for one in February, the Color Run, let’s go for at least two more! I especially love the obstacle course ones, so hopefully I can do more of those.

3. Perform stand up/improv/acting at least once a month, twice when I can. – Whether it is an open mic or an improv show, I hope to at least perform once a month. I want to perform more but sometimes vacations and such keep you too busy. So that’s why I’m keeping it at once a month.

4. Get an Agent. – I’ve been here over a year, there is NO EXCUSE for me to not get an agent by this time next year. The reasons why I won’t have an agent is because I didn’t try hard enough or gave up, and I’m a hard worker and a NOT a quitter.

5. Write more. – This includes multiple parts: A) Finish my spec script. B) Write and perform in a viral video, webseries, youtube song video. C) Write more stand up jokes. D) Improve both of my blogs. E)Do NaNoWriMo if I am not busy. F) Overall just writing more and stretching my brain creativeness more and more.

6. Go to at least 5 or 7 more places on the 1000 Places to See Before You Die list. – Last year I said explore more and I still want to do that. But I want to be more specific and as you all know I am obsessed with lists. So let’s be more specific and explore more travel locations. I am driving back so I may see 5 quicker than I thought, so that’s why I said or 7. It’d be even cooler if I see even more than 7, too!

7. Make my acting more of a career. – The acting that I have been doing lately hasn’t really deemed much to talk about, so let’s amp it up. Let’s be in multiple plays or shows or films. Let’s do it all.

8. Become more fit. – Another goal that will probably always remain on this list. I hope to lose ten pounds but I tend to gain muscle and not lost weight. Let’s see though. I want to go to the gym at least 4 times a week starting the 14th. Let’s make this happen!

What are your goals?

Day Fifteen: New Years Goals Accomplished!

Christmastime also brings a lot of reflecting on this year. Let’s just do a quick check on my New Year’s Goals:

1. Get More Fit. – I feel as if I am the same, maybe a bit more fit because I run now and do various routines not just the same weights, treadmill, and spin. But same weight, maybe more but I look the same. I’m thinking I might have gained muscle? I like to think that way.

2. Run a 5k. – Check. Well it was a 5k obstacle course, the Run for your Lives 5k, I think that counts though. If it doesn’t I also registered for The Color Run this February and that’s so early into 2013 that it should count, too.

3. Do an open mic/comedy performance at least once a month. – I feel like I might have slacked with this early in the year but totally amped it up the second half performing almost at least twice a month maybe more. Go me!

4. Read 50 Books a Year. – Check! Ended it with The Hobbit! 🙂

5. Write More. – I wrote a lot more this year I feel and let my creative juices flow. I wrote some sketches, more jokes, worked a little more on a spec script, wrote a parody song, not bad. Next year I’m going to amp it up even more though.

6. Explore More. – I feel like I could have pushed this one more. I did go to Miami and up the California coast but I didn’t go on as many auditions as I would have liked and just recently am I getting into local places. I consider it pretty accomplished though.

So overall, pretty freaking successful with my New Years goals and it isn’t even the end of the year! Yay! How about you guys? Do you remember your New Years Goals or resolutions? How’d they go?
